With PhD, 4 Master's Degrees, Punjab Man Sells Vegetables To Make Ends Meet
With his vegetable cart and a board saying "PhD Sabzi Wala", Dr. Sandeep Singh goes home to home every day to sell vegetables. He says he earns more money by selling vegetables than he did as a professor.
Despite holding four Master's degrees and a PhD, Dr. Sandeep Singh finds himself selling vegetables on the streets of Punjab, struggling to make ends meet. Formerly a contractual professor at Punjabi University in Patiala, he had to resign due to unforeseen circumstances, leading to his current challenging situation.
The 39-year-old worked as a contractual professor in the Law Department of Punjabi University for about 11 years. With a PhD in Law, Singh has four Master¡¯s degrees in subjects including Punjabi, Journalism and Political Science. What is interesting is that the professor, who now sells vegetables, is still pursuing studies.
He left his job after facing hurdles such as salary cut and irregular pay. "I had to leave the job because I didn't use to get my salary on time and there was frequent pay cut. It had become difficult for me to make ends meet with that job. That's why I switched to selling vegetables for the survival of me and my family."

¡°I still want to work as a professor but the circumstances are not allowing,¡± he added. Singh is currently studying B.Lib and said that he will continue to study throughout his life.
Despite taking a break from teaching, Dr. Sandeep Singh remains committed to his passion. His aspirations include saving money to open his own tuition center in the future.
