13 Years Ago, MS Dhoni Almost Unintentionally Prevented Sachin Tendulkar From Becoming The First ODI Double Centurion!
He kept Sachin off strike for 10 balls when the Master Blaster was batting on 199.
February 24, 2010 saw Sachin Tendulkar create history. In the second ODI against South Africa in Gwalior, he became the first male player to score a double hundred in the format.
But it was almost not to be! Why? Because MS Dhoni almost cost him the chance.

But hold on, Dhoni has no reason to do so. He was playing in the interests of the team. Obviously Sachin was tiring since he had played an explosive knock till then, and runs were needed in the death overs.
When Sachin took a single to move to 199, 14 balls were left Dhoni threw the kitchen sink and for the next 10 balls Sachin was off strike. Eventually the strike returned with 4 balls left.
Then the moment came. History was made. The crowd which was getting anxious finally gave vent to their joy and all the emotion came pouring out. Dhoni finished with a 35-ball 68 not out and India amassed 401/3. They would win by 153 runs and clinch the series 2-0 with a game left to play.

Sachin hit 200 not out in 147 balls, but Dhoni almost became a villain for the fans of the Master Blaster. Mind you, his approach was right, he put the team ahead of the individual and we are sure Sachin bears him no ill will for delaying the legend's moment of glory.
Incidentally Dhoni slammed 25 runs in those 10 balls so no way can anyone say the team did not benefit.
