Harmanpreet Kaur¡¯s Mother Has A Powerful Message, Says Girls Must Be Empowered And Not Killed In The Womb
Harmanpreet smashed 171 against Australia in the semi-finals
Harmanpreet Kaur is the only name world cricket is talking about right now. She smashed a whopping 171-run knock in barely 115 deliveries against Australia in the semi-finals and took India to the finals of the women's world cup.
Now everyone is heaping praise on the batswoman - Virat Kohli, Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, Sachin Tendulkar and many more cricketers took to Twitter to send in their best wishes. But her mother's comments on her are very powerful. Soon after India beat Australia by a 36-run margin, Harmanpreet's mother said, "Girls must be empowered, shouldn't be killed in womb. The way my daughter made the country proud, other girls should also be encouraged."
This comes as an important message to the nation where women are still not considered on a par with men. We hope Harmanpreet and other cricketers such as Mithali Raj, Jhulan Goswami, Deepti Sharma and Smriti Mandhana also serve as important inspirations for females in the nation.
Well, Harmanpreet's sister Hemprit also spoke up about her sister's performance. She said, "Harman is always positive. On field she always behaves like Virat Kohli and is aggressive like him. However, off-field, she is quite calm and composed. Right from her early days, she treated Virender Sehwag as her batting idol and even bats like him."
Harmanpreet hails from Moga, Punjab and made her ODI debut against Pakistan in March 2009. In her eight years of international cricket, she has become an important anchor of Indian women's cricket. She is also the only Indian to play in the Australian Big Bash league.
