Virat Kohli Not Satisfied With Test Series Win Over England, Wants Team India To Achieve Much More In The Coming Days

The year has ended with a bang for Test skipper Virat Kohli, who was a proud man following India's dominating performance over England. Even though India have ended the year as the top-ranked Test team, Kohli kept things in perspective, saying "just the foundation" had been laid for the team's future. "It's been a memorable 2016 for us. To be part of such a good year and a good season, especially with the team in transition, is something we can be really proud of.

"But this is just the foundation that's been laid for us to carry on. It's just the beginning. It's not even a tiny bit of what we want to achieve. We understand where we want to go and hopefully the guys can keep putting in this kind of effort and take the team where it belongs," Kohli said. "The two setbacks that I can point out would be the ODI series in Australia and second one is the World T20. We won the Asia Cup, we won the One-day series against New Zealand in India and we won all the Test series that we played," he added.

More than the 4-0 victory, what pleased Kohli was the fact that his boys had ticked all the boxes. "I would say it's a complete performance, from the time we were put under pressure in the first game to coming back and winning the next four Test matches. Coming from behind in all four games, we lost four tosses including Rajkot. And winning three games out of that is very satisfying. Especially the lower-order contribution is something that stands out for me in this series."

Talking about the stellar all-round contributions from the spin trio of R Ashwin (306 runs in 7 innings), Ravindra Jadeja (224 runs in 7 innings) and Jay ant Yadav (221 in 4 innings), Kohli said: "Their contributions with the bat have been outstanding. I think Ashwin has set a benchmark for the other spinners to contribute with the bat as well. Jadeja has come of age as a batsman in this series. Jayant gets inspired seeing Ashwin, the way he improves his cricket every time.

"As a captain it gives you more freedom to play five batsmen rather than thinking of another one. Your bowlers contribute 120-130 runs every game and that's as good as playing another batsman and you get a bowling option as well." Kohli pointed out that scoring 400-plus totals and then to endure an innings defeat must have deflated Alastair Cook and Co.

"I know, we have gone through that (defeat) ourselves as a team and it's never too easy. Especially when you win two tosses and you get 400-plus totals and then you have an innings defeat. Obviously it's deflating for them as an opposition. I know what they would be feeling. We have gone through the same in the past. It's never easy for the team, that's what I can say."
