Gmail Is Getting A Massive Update For You, And Here Are All The Smart New Features It Will Have

Recently, there¡¯s been some speculation that Google was working on an update to the Gmail platform, and today, those rumours are starting to look true.

The company released a new blog post today with a number of aesthetic and functional changes to the G Suite version of Gmail, though the web version is expected to receive the same treatment anytime soon. So here are some of the changes you can expect in the new Gmail.

Hover actions

Google might be adding new shortcut buttons that appear whenever you hover over a mail in your inbox. The blog post seems to indicate it¡¯ll let you do things like Archive, Delete, Mark as read, or Snooze an email to read later.

There¡¯s going to be a new sidebar on the right, which seems for the sole purpose of quickly pulling up your Google add-ons like Calendar, Notes, etc. And instead of opening them in a new browser tab, the bar will expand horizontally to give you a sort of split-screen view.

Snooze

What we wrote earlier wasn¡¯t a typo, Google is actually integrating the snooze function into Gmail. This is exactly what it sounds like, temporarily helping you clear out the clutter from your inbox while focusing on priority matters, and bringing back emails you¡¯ve snoozed at a later time in the day so you can attend to them when you¡¯re free to. It¡¯s perfect for when you first step into the office in the morning and don¡¯t have the time just yet to respond to some emails, but still need to answer them by the end of the day.

Smart Reply

Smart reply meanwhile has already been around in Google¡¯s Inbox app. It uses a predictive to offer quick responses to emails that you can fire off with a single button click. Best of all, it sticks to the sort of language you tend to use in your everyday emails, so it sounds just like you.

The new 'Confidential Mode' emails

There are also a few changes expected that it seems Google doesn¡¯t have ready just yet. For one, we¡¯re soon expecting to see offline support for Gmail. That means you¡¯ll be able to search, write, delete, and archive emails from your inbox even while offline.

There¡¯s also going to be a new feature called ¡®Confidential mode¡¯. This lets you send emails with a expiration dates, or even retroactively set them for older sent mails. You choose whether the recipients of these confidential mails can forward, copy, download, or print them, and can also be set up so they require to authenticate with you by text before receiving.
