Apple Reveals Two New MacBook Pro Laptops, With M1 Pro & M1 Max Chips
Both the 14 and the 16-inch variants of the MacBook Pro get refreshed aesthetics with a more blocky design, that adds a fresh flair to the laptop.
Today is a big day for Mac users as Apple introduced its newest and most powerful MacBook Pros, rocking two of its most powerful CPUs for Mac users -- the M1 Pro and M1 Max alongside new AirPods and HomePod Mini with updated colours.

M1 Pro
The M1 Pro is the second tier CPU in the M1 lineup after the regular M1. Packing 33.7 billion transistors -- twice as much as the regular M1 -- it features a new 10-core CPU that also hosts eight high-performance cores and two high-efficiency cores.
Also included is a 16-core GPU which promises to be twice as powerful as the one on the M1. Together, they¡¯re 70 percent more powerful than the M1, while also consuming 70 percent less power compared to similar 8-core laptop chips in the market. The CPU can be configured with up to 32GB of fast unified memory with 200GB/s bandwidth.
M1 Max
M1 Max is the flagship in the M1 lineup. While it uses the same 10-core CPU as the M1 Pro, it gets a massive 32-core GPU that¡¯s four times faster in graphics performance compared to M1.
Moreover, it does so while consuming 40 percent less power similar to the highest-end GPU in laptops using up to 100 watts less power. This means not only it¡¯s more power-efficient, but it also stays cool. M1 Max also offers higher bandwidth with up to 64GB of unified memory with a bandwidth of up to 400GB/s.
Both CPUs get support for the ProRes codec that accelerates video processing while maximising battery life. The M1 Pro and Max playback multiple streams of high-quality 4K and 8K ProRes video while using very little power. M1 Max pushes the limits even further, delivering up to 2x faster video encoding than M1 Pro, and features two ProRes accelerators

MacBook Pro 14 & 16
Both the 14 and the 16-inch variants of the MacBook Pro get refreshed aesthetics with a more blocky design, that adds a fresh flair to the laptop. MacBook Pros gets a larger screen compared to its predecessor -- 14.2-inches for the 14-inch variant and the 16.2 for the 16-inch variant -- both of which now edge closer to the bezels and features a notch on top.
The notch houses a full-HD camera for better video conferencing. The display gets a major overhaul too -- you now get a mini-LED panel that offers rich contrasts and deep blacks, while offering peak brightness of 1,600 nits and a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio. The display also gets ProMotion with a 120Hz refresh rate that switches between different modes to save battery.

Hardware and performance improvements
Under the hood, you¡¯ll get to pick between the M1 Pro and the M1 Max CPUs on both the 14-inch and the 16-inch variants.
Compared to the 14-inch MacBook Pro, the 10-core CPUs on the M1 Pro & Max CPUs, the machine is 3. 7 times faster in Xcode, 2.8 times faster computational fluid dynamics performance in NASA TetrUSS.
On the other hand, the 16 core and 32 core GPU on the M1 Pro and M1 Max, promises 9.3 times and 13.4 times faster 4K render in Final Cut Pro; 5.6 times and 8.5 times faster-combined vector and raster GPU performance respectively in Affinity Photo.
In the battery department, the 14-inch model delivers up to 17 hours of video playback, while the 16-inch model offers 21 hours of video playback.
Connectivity
The 2021 MacBook Pros also bring back a few ports that creative professionals missed on the previous generations -- three Thunderbolt 4 ports to connect high-speed peripherals, an SDXC card slot for fast access to media, an HDMI port as well as an improved headphone jack that supports high-impedance headphones.
Also making a comeback is MagSafe that offers a snappy charging connector that can also charge up to 50 percent in 30 minutes.
For wireless connectivity, MacBook Pro also features Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0.
