Barbados Will Become The First Country With An Embassy In The Metaverse

The metaverse is developing at lightning speeds. Now, Barbados has become the first sovereign nation to have an embassy in the metaverse. The Caribbean island is preparing to legally declare real estate in the digital world its sovereign land by establishing an embassy in the metaverse.
On Sunday, the Barbadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade signed an agreement with Decentraland to set up a digital embassy. Decentraland is one of the largest and most popular crypto-backed digital worlds.
Creating a digital identity
That's not all! According to CoinDesk, the Barbadian government is also in the process of finalising agreements with other metaverse platforms like Somnium Space, SuperWorld, and others.

¡°The idea is not to pick a winner ¨C the metaverse is still very young and new, and we want to make sure what we build is transferable across the metaworlds,¡± Barbados' ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, HE Gabriel Abed told CoinDesk.
It appears that Barbados is attempting to aggressively expand its digital existence as the lines between the physical and digital are effectively blurred in the metaverse.

Barbados is also among the world's most receptive countries to new tech. It is considered one of the friendliest countries to deal in cryptocurrencies with and has spearheaded the development of a central digital currency for the country.
