However, in case you wanted to capture the world from space, Canon has now released an interactive site that allows you to capture images using a satellite.
Yes, this sounds rather odd, but at CES, Canon has unveiled a website that connects you to its CE-SAT-1 satellite that¡¯s equipped with a slightly modified 5D Mark III DSLR to help you capture images of some locations like New York, Bahamas and Dubai.
The satellite was launched back in 2017. The satellite is equipped with the aforementioned camera along with a 41cm Cassegrain-type mirror telescope with a range of 3720mm. The satellite is orbiting a 600-kilometre orbit, it is capable of providing 36-inch ground resolution within a 3x2 mile frame. The satellite also contains a PowerShot S110 in case you don¡¯t want to capture images on a ground level.
It goes without saying that this is a simulated capture, meaning it uses pre-captured imagery as the satellite is orbiting at nearly 17,000 miles per hour. The website will open an interactive demo that will allow you to capture images from a variety of locations on Earth, while also displaying the altitude of the image capture. The demo is voiced by astronaut Marsha Ivins.
