The breach occurred at Toyota Kirloskar Motor -- a joint venture between Kirloskar group and the Japanese automobile giant. The company hasn¡¯t however shared the extent of the violation and the size of the data that has been compromised.
A data breach at Toyota Motor¡¯s Indian division could have exposed the personal data of some users, the company revealed on Sunday, as per a Reuters report.
The car company said that it has informed the Indian authorities. The breach occurred at Toyota Kirloskar Motor -- a joint venture between Kirloskar group and the Japanese automobile giant. The company hasn¡¯t however shared the extent of the violation and the size of the data that has been compromised.
This comes after Toyota Motor¡¯s T-connect service potentially leaked 296,000 pieces of customer information last October. As per the company¡¯s report, around 296,019 email addresses and customer numbers of those using T-Connect -- a telematics service that allows connecting the vehicles to a network -- were leaked. These individuals were those who signed up for the service using their email IDs since July 2017.
At the time, third-party access couldn¡¯t be confirmed from the access history of the data server where the information was stored, based on an investigation conducted by security experts. However, the report also stated that third-party access could not be completely ruled out.
The car company didn¡¯t really confirm if there were instances of the information being misused but warned that the accounts could be subject to spamming or phishing scams along with unsolicited emails.
