Twitter Blue is here! Technically, it's been "here" for a long time, but now Twitter's atrociously priced paid service is rolling out to users in India.
Twitter Blue is here! Technically, it's been "here" for a long time, but now Twitter's atrociously priced paid service is rolling out to users in India.
For ?900 a month, Twitter users in India can get a verified checkmark, in addition to a host of features including the ability to post longer videos, early access to new features. In the future, Twitter Blue subscribers will only see half the ads and also get priority in terms of visibility in mentions, search, and replies.
?900 for a checkmark on Twitter?
Even then, ?900 a month sounds like an exorbitant amount of money for two lackluster features and others still in the process of being rolled out. It's important to note here that for web-only verified access, users will pay ?650 per month.
For an annual subscription of Twitter Blue (on mobile devices), users will get a ?1000 discount and pay ?6,800 instead of ?7,800. For perspective, the most expensive Netflix subscription in India costs ?649 per month. Disney+ Hotstar too, costs only ?299 per month in India.

On Wednesday, Twitter announced that the feature was being rolled out to users in 15 countries, including India, Brazil, and Indonesia. Earlier, Twitter Blue was available in limited regions, including the US and Australia.
For now, only users who have been active on Twitter for 90 days can start paying for the service. Earlier, Twitter chief Elon Musk had said that each country's pricing will be determined based on purchasing power parity, but clearly that's not the case - there's virtually no difference in terms of pricing for American and Indian users.

A recent report adds fuel to the fire, claiming that only a small percentage of Twitter users are paying for the paid service.
