GIFs Turn 30 Years Old Today And Facebook Is Now Letting You Post Them In The Comments
The format has transcended beyond the simple animation loop to become the language of memelords everywhere.
Facebook today had an announcement sure to please all you dank meme lovers out there. June 15 is the 30th anniversary of the GIF, so the company is now letting you post GIFs in comments as a happy surprise.
The update puts a little button in the comment box, right next to the insert emoji, photo/video, and sticker buttons. Click it to see the currently trending GIFs or use the search bar to find the best fit for your hilarious response.
And if you¡¯re not a frequent user, we¡¯ve got you covered. Here are a few old classics, as well as some popular new entries, that are pretty much self explanatory.
Despite what a lot of you may say about not liking GIFs, there are clearly plenty of people who do. The company reports that nearly 13 billion of them were sent in Messenger alone last year ¨C that¡¯s about 25,000 GIFs a minute.
Now, if we could only all agree on how it's pronounced (seriously, even the guy who developed the format says it's pronounced with a 'j').
