Zuckerberg Claims Meta's AI Supercomputer Will Be World's Fastest In 2022

Mark Zuckerberg's Meta (formerly known as Facebook) is working overtime to make his metaverse dreams come true. The company's metaverse platform "Horizon Worlds" is already live and ready to welcome a new generation of internet capabilities.
Now, it appears that Meta has built an AI supercomputer that may become "the world's fastest" to support its metaverse. The company has reportedly made the artificial intelligence supercomputer to support the next generation of machine learning.

World's fastest AI supercomputer
According to Meta, it will become the world's fastest supercomputer by the end of 2022. Meta's AI Research SuperCluster (RSC) is not completely built yet. When it is complete in mid-2022, it might become the world's fastest.
¡°Meta has developed what we believe is the world¡¯s fastest AI supercomputer... We¡¯re calling it RSC for AI Research SuperCluster and it¡¯ll be complete later this year¡± Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a statement on Monday.

Meta is not the only company to be working on its supercomputers. Google already has its supercomputer called Sycamore which runs on 53 qubits. Nvidia and Microsoft are also working on their AI supercomputers as machine learning becomes the main avenue for these companies to explore.

The RSC would be employed across Facebook's diverse operations - from moderating content in order to expel hate speech to AR solutions. Of course, the AI supercomputer would be used to create experiences for metaverse.
According to The Verge, the RSC's development began about a year and a half ago. Meta's engineers have designed various components that are used for cooling, power, networking, and cables completely from scratch.

The pilot phase of RSC is already online - consisting 760 Nvidia DGX A100 systems with 6,080 connected GPUs. When phase two is complete, RSC will have 16,000 GPUs in total.
