Amazon Announces New Alexa Feature That Uses Your Eyes To Navigate Tasks

Amazon revealed a new Alexa feature called "Eye Gaze on Alexa" that is aimed at helping people with mobility and speech disabilities. The feature will use your eyes to perform functions on the Fire Max 11 Tablet that was launched in May this year.

What is Eye Gaze?

Users who are unable to tap using their hands and cannot use their voice to give commands to their device, the feature will track eyes to detect a user and follows what they're looking at in real-time. Fascinating, right?

Amazon's Eye Gaze works with "Tap to Alexa" so that users can simply look at their tablet and perform pre-set actions like playing music, making calls, and controlling their smart devices. The company claims that it worked with speed-language pathologists to help people with their daily tasks - for something as simple as turning on lights or communicating with their caretakers.

Unfortunately, the feature will be available to users only in the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, and Germany.

Another new feature - Call Translation

At the event, Amazon also announced a feature called "Call Translation" wherein Alexa audio and video calls are translated in real-time. This way, non-native speakers of a language can communicate more effectively. This feature will also come in handy to users with hearing disabilities.

The "Call Translation" feature will roll out to Echo Show devices and the Alexa mobile app and will be available in the US, UK, Canada, Germany, Mexico, France, Spain, and Italy in over 10 languages including English, German, French, and Spanish.
