Twitter Throwdown: Paul Graham Roasts Elon Musk, But Musk Fails To Catch The Burn
Twitter CEO Elon Musk recently got roasted by venture capitalist Paul Graham who shared a list of global unicorn companies
Twitter CEO Elon Musk recently got roasted by venture capitalist Paul Graham who shared a list of global unicorn companies. In the Tweet, Paul Graham wrote what struck him the most about this list was the "preponderance of software companies," adding that "making physical stuff is hard. But don't let that deter you, if that's what you're interested in."
The striking thing about this list, to me, is the preponderance of software companies. Making physical stuff is hard. But don't let that deter you, if that's what you're interested in. If things go right for Helion, it could be the biggest of the lot. pic.twitter.com/fwzmPwfpNx

Of course, Elon Musk had to jump in with his two cents. "Major misallocation of capital imo [in my opinion]. Most on this list won¡¯t make it," Musk responded to the Tweet while adding there is "not enough talent in manufacturing & heavy industries."

Not enough talent in manufacturing & heavy industries.
Paul Graham drags Elon Musk
Paul Graham said that Elon Musk did make an "interesting point" but inserted a sly attack in the same Tweet that not even Elon Musk was able to pick up on, or perhaps it was something he willfully ignored.
"Can you think of a prominent person who's currently wasting his talents in software when he could be working on manufacturing and heavy industries?" Graham wrote in the same Tweet.
Interesting point, but an example might make it clearer. Can you think of a prominent person who's currently wasting his talents in software when he could be working on manufacturing and heavy industries?

The very apparent shade seemed to have flown right over Elon Musk's head, who responded with - "Once prominent, they¡¯re one of the few to have succeeded. Too much talent is chasing software, much like Hollywood has too much talent chasing acting."

It¡¯s silly to have 10 talented entrepreneurs all chase same SaaS niche when they could be epically successful in heavy industry.

"It¡¯s silly to have 10 talented entrepreneurs all chase same SaaS niche when they could be epically successful in heavy industry," Musk added.
While it's unclear if Musk willfully chose to take the high road (for a change), it's no coincidence that Paul Graham made the reference to someone who was wasting his talents in software. Musk wasn't always the owner of Twitter - he started his entrepreneurship journey by founding Tesla and SpaceX - two manufacturing companies that deal in self-driving cars and spacecraft engineering respectively.

Not everyone has enjoyed Twitter since Elon Musk's takeover, owing to his rash decisions pertaining to a revamped verification programme and his approach to hate speech. Recently, Musk dissolved Twitter Inc. as a company, merging it into a new entity called X Corp. This merger hasn't been revealed to the public by Musk yet but the news was first broken by an anonymous trader tracker.
Wait, Twitter soon to be X?
