Only Paid Subscribers To Be Visible In Twitter's 'For You' Feed, Says Elon Musk

A new day can only mean a new feature announcement from Elon Musk for his personal playground aka Twitter. Just yesterday, we found out that Twitter is now worth $20 billion, about half of what Elon Musk paid to buy the platform in October, 2022.

Now, Musk has announced an update to the For You feed for Twitter Blue subscribers. It appears that paid Twitter users will be visible on Twitter's "For You" feed starting April 15, 2023. In addition, only verified accounts would be able to participate in polls on Twitter from April 15.

According to Musk, the move is aimed at limiting the reach of AI bots, calling it the "only realistic way" to deal with "advanced AI bot swarms" from taking over. In addition, he mentioned that Twitter is fighting a "hopeless losing battle" if the change isn't implemented.

Starting April 15th, only verified accounts will be eligible to be in For You recommendations.

To further make his case for this move, Musk explained how bots can also pay for verification and appear in the For You feed as long as they don't impersonate a human being.

For You first appeared in January as an alternative to the Following tab on Twitter and shows users content not only from the accounts they follow, but also from users Twitter thinks they'll like. Naturally, not everyone was a fan, so a later update gave users the chance to see the Following tab as well.

If only paying subscribers who are verified are visibilised on the For You tab, it would limit the versatility of content you see on your feed and could increase the frequency of promotional content.

In addition, Twitter is also phasing out so-called legacy checkmarks from the platform starting April 1. This means that if you were verified as part of Twitter's earlier verification programme and do not wish to pay Elon Musk on a monthly basis, you will lose the verified checkmark.
