Spotify Working On AI Feature That Lets Users Create Prompt-Based Playlists

Wouldn't it be lovely to generate playlists through simple text prompts that highlight your mood, vibe, and overall genre preference? Turns out, music streaming app Spotify is working on that feature.
Even though most people who create playlists prefer to add songs they're familiar with, the spotted feature could be especially useful in finding new music. A TechCrunch report claimed that Spotify has been working on AI-powered playlists on its platform. The feature was spotted by tech veteran Chris Messina in the app code.
Creating playlists using text prompts on Spotify
The code shows a feature to make "AI playlists" that should be able to curate "playlists based on user prompts." Fascinating, right? This feature could be a close sibling of Niche Mixes feature on Spotify that lets users create playlists for almost any mood. This feature also uses machine learning algorithms to generate specific playlists.
However, the spotted feature would allow users to input prompts that will decide the route of the playlist. Messina suspects that the AI playlist feature could be linked to another Spotify feature called Blend, as the code also shows the ability to invite fellow listeners to create AI playlists together.

Spotify has been going big on AI features. The streaming giant introduced AI DJ in February 2023, a feature that sets up a personalised AI guide (akin to radio stations) to play your favourite songs. Recently, it also rolled out Voice Translation for podcasts. This feature translates existing podcasts into new languages while retaining the voice of the original podcaster.
