Twitter's New Colour-Coded Labels And Checkmarks For Verified Accounts Are Here

Twitter is becoming very dizzying with new rules and announcements every week under the leadership of Elon Musk. Now, the company's labels and checkmarks have received an update, making a formerly simple process complicated.

Earlier, verified accounts would simply request Twitter for a verification tick, and if they qualified, they would receive it.

Another day, another set of rules

Now, a blue checkmark means two different things: "either that an account was verified under Twitter¡¯s previous verification criteria (active, notable, and authentic), or that the account has an active subscription to Twitter¡¯s new Twitter Blue subscription product and meets certain requirements," Twitter wrote in a blog.

Gold checkmarks indicate that the particular account represents an official business and is subscribed to Twitter Blue for Business.

Grey checkmarks indicate that the account represents a government official or a multilateral organisation. These include national crisis response agencies, law enforcement agencies, embassies, major national level agencies, and more.

There are also "official labels" that Twitter claims is applied to commercial companies "including business partners, major brands, media outlets, and publishers.

Labels of state affiliation are available on accounts that are under the control of state-affiliated media "and individuals closely associated with those entities." Government labels are applicable to accounts "heavily engaged in geopolitics and diplomacy from main countries where Twitter operates."

The pilot for Twitter Blue for Business has been rolled out. Besides the regular verification, Twitter will allow companies to link their main accounts with those of their employees.

Musk recently claimed that he would step down as Twitter head in case a poll were to suggest that... which it did. Now, Elon Musk is claiming that major policy decisions would be left to Twitter Blue subscribers.

Does that mean he's not stepping down? We don't know, but Musk promised to abide by whatever results came in.
