Windows 12 Could Arrive As Early As 2024, New Leak Suggests

Windows 12 is already on its way and could come as soon as 2024, a report suggests. In a since-deleted tweet from Twitter user @leaf_hobby who is known for Intel hardware leaks, it was stated that Windows 12 is on the supported OS list for Intel's Meteor Lake-S chipset called Z980.

Microsoft hasn't addressed the existence of Windows 12 yet, so this might not come true in the end. Now, Microsoft is approaching OS releases differently, hoping to roll out a new iteration every three years. This is unlike the strategy it took with Windows 10 that was released 7 years ago, followed by Windows 11 in 2021.

What we know about Windows 12 so far

The Z980 chipset will be paired with Intel Meteor Lake and Arrow Lake CPUs, Windows Central reported. Meteor Lake processors are expected to come in the second quarter of 2024, a report by BenchLife said.

Given the updated timeline of major Windows releases, it wouldn't be a surprise if Microsoft is already working on a successor to Windows 11, still a relatively new iteration. Windows 11 first started rolling out in October 2021, which implies that Windows 12 should arrive sometime in 2024. But these plans change all the time, so we might or might not get a considerable Windows release.
