What is a super moon?
Well, in case you didn¡¯t know, a super moon is basically when out friendly neighbourhood satellite comes to Earth¡¯s closest spot while orbiting. Unlike other orbits, Moon¡¯s orbit is elliptical. As the moon moves in an orbit, its closest point - the perigee - will come very close to the Earth.
The farthest point of the orbit is called the apogee. Since it is closer to the Earth, it looks larger -- 14 percent larger and 30 percent brighter than a normal full moon, to be exact.
When will the super moon arise in India?
Lucky for us, the super moon commences as soon as our sun sets -- so we can witness it in all of its glory. The super moon is expected to start at around 8:05 PM IST (Indian Standard Time) on April 7th and it is expected to be there till April 8th -- although by that time the sun would have risen, so we only get one night.
How to watch the super moon?
Well, unlike an eclipse, a super moon is just like the moon on an ordinary day, just a little more closer and a whole lot bigger. You don¡¯t really need any protective glasses or lenses -- you can look straight into the beauty of the celestial object.
However, what you do need is to adhere to the current social-distancing norms -- don¡¯t step out of your house to see it and maintain the safe distance while you let go of the anxiety and worries of COVID-19.
