Elephant Dies After Reportedly Being Electrocuted By A Fence While Looking For Food
Click here to find out about the elephant in Thailand that died after reportedly being electrocuted by a fence when looking for food.
Another giant suffered because of conflict with the humans. An elephant reportedly died after suffering an electric shock from a fence protecting a mango farm after it went in search of food.
The animal was reportedly found by locals on June 6 on the ground in Prachuap Khiri Khan, southern Thailand.
When park rangers arrived they found burn marks on the elephant's trunk.
Officials questioned the owners of a nearby mango grove about the electric fence.
30-year-old Komsak Sithadee and 29-year-old Siamrath Moyai, the land owners, allegedly admitted that they use electric fences but weren't sure whether the elephant was electrocuted by theirs since there are others in the area as well.
¡°Normally, our generator would stop working after it has touched something but when we checked, the generator was still working. So we don't know if the elephant touched our electric fence or another,¡± Mail Online quoted them as saying.
A team of vets collected the elephant's organs for a post-mortem examination to confirm the cause of death.
If the results confirm that the elephant was electrocuted, the land owners would be charged, according to Head ranger Rakpong Boonyoi.
¡°We will interrogate the owners of the fruit grove for more information to check if they were involved in the death of the elephant. If they are, we will have to charge them for harming the animal,¡± he reportedly said.
This is just another case of man-animal conflict where an elephant lost its life.
