UK Diver Comes Across World's Largest Jellyfish In North Sea, Captures It On Camera
A diver who went swimming in the North Sea was taken aback when he found the world's largest jellyfish. The photos of the giant creature are going viral on social media.
If you've ever watched Friends, you'd know that hanging out around jellyfish is not exactly the best idea. Well, even if you haven't watched the sitcom, it is common knowledge that jellyfish can be fatal to those they sting.
Now, a diver, who went swimming in the North Sea, was taken aback when he found the world's largest jellyfish. The diver named Darren Martin, from Tyne and Wear city was clicking photographs at Brown Bay when he first saw the jellyfish.

The 59-year-old diver saw something big in the ocean while on his usual dives and immediately clicked a picture of the creature. He even waited for it to come near.
¡°Its appearance was a cream-coloured, dome-shaped top with long tendrils ¨C these look like long bits of thread and string hanging from underneath the dome,¡± said Martin.
As jellyfish's proximity grew closer to Martin, he captured the moment on his camera. The photos of the giant creature are going viral on social media. The pictures also feature Martin's co-diver Chris Hackers.
Lion's Mane jellyfish can grow up to six feet and are found in various colours like red, orange, or even purple. The one Martin came across was similar to orange in colour.

According to experts, Lion's Mane Jellyfish can have up to 200 tentacles and they can be as big as the blue whale in size. Researchers at the Sweden¡¯s University of Gothenburg, if the Lion¡¯s Mane jellyfish stings anyone, it would cause a lot of pain which can also last up to two days. Symptoms like cramps and nausea are common among people who get stung but it does not cause death.
