Amid the ongoing debate over the work-life balance and suitable working hours, Adar Poonawalla, the CEO of Serum Institute of India, jumped onto the bandwagon, stressing that 'human beings can't be productive beyond 8-9 hours.'.
The Serum Institute's owner believes in the importance of having a work-life balance. Adar Poonawalla's statement came after the Larsen & Toubro (L&T) chairman SN Subrahmanyan's statement endorsing a 90-hour work week, stating that he regretted not being able to make his employees work on Sundays too.
Human beings can't be productive beyond 8 to 9 hours
In an interview with Business Today, Poonawalla clearly stated that human beings cannot be productive after 8 to 9 hours of work life. He said that sometimes employees have to put in those extra hours at work, which is not a problem, but doing it every day is not possible.
He continued to say that employees can't just be in the office working from Monday to Sunday; that's a bit impractical, as per Poonawalla.

L&T chairman says, 'How long can you stare at your wife'
After some fiery statements made by the L&T chairman, SN Subrahmanyan has come into the spotlight for his remarks made during the workweek hours.
In one of his statements, he also mentioned how long can a person stare at his wife. Hence, come on, get to the office and start working.
According to a United Nations report of 2021, long working hours can have serious consequences on one's mental and physical health. Before, Adar Poonawalla, industrialist Gautam Adani, had earlier said that it should be a personal decision and not an imposition.

Adar Poonawalla talks about an ideal work-life balance
Earlier, the co-founder of Infosys, Narayana Murthy also endorsed a 70-hour workweek. On the contrary, Poonawalla stressed the importance of having a work-life balance. According to him, the industrialists feel that hard work is very important and there is no denying that having a social life is equally important for employees to feel fresh and productive.
Meeting people and building relationships, be it for charity during the office offices is very crucial. He also stressed the importance of smart work instead of hard work.
