If there was ever an epic example of beginner¡¯s luck, this is it. Sam Lawton from the US, bagged a whopping ?1,20,000 (Rs 1.04 crore) with his first-ever lottery ticket. The 19-year-old said that he didn¡¯t have any plans to buy a lottery ticket, but decided to buy it after seeing a fellow winner Dean Weymes on television last month.
He purchased the ticket for Rs 130 through a mobile app. So, when the numbers on his ticket matched the winning numbers - 3, 20, 26, 27 and 32, he was obviously bamboozled. The sudden change in his fortune sent Lawton into a tizzy but he soon planned to spend his winnings on productive and meaningful things like driving lessons, a deposit for his new home and a holiday in New York with his 20-year-old girlfriend, Connie.
"It's just incredible. Nothing like this happens to me, I'm chuffed to bits. I'd seen the ads for the Set for Life game and thought how great it would be to win the prize. I then saw the winner Dean Weymes on the TV celebrating his Set for Life win and thought I'd have a go,¡± Lawton was quoted by LadBible.
"I downloaded the National Lottery app, set up an account, put ?10 into my account and then played a Lucky Dip and I did all this whilst having a bath,¡± he added.
"We all checked the tickets and sat there in disbelief wondering if it was true. It was a sleepless night and then I got up and went to work as usual at 8 AM. Connie and I chatted and then when we could, we just popped into town and had a look around the shops. Everything still seems quite unreal - the news really is still sinking in,¡± said Lawton.
He celebrated his day by opening a bottle of champagne during a press conference at Coombe Abbey Hotel in Coventry, England.
