Cadbury¡¯s Bournvita has been a childhood staple for most Indian kids. The chocolate drink that posed as a "health drink" all these years is getting scorched on the internet. Recently, an internet user decided to point out the actual benefits of the drink, which caused an uproar online.

We all remember the 2003 hit movie ¡®Koi Mil Gaya'. The chocolate drink, often consumed with warm milk, was an instant hit after children saw Hrithik Roshan gulp it down as Rohit in the film. Soon after the launch of the product in 1948, it became a regular in Indian households. It was something all children had with their mandatory glass of milk in the evening.
In the video, the man claims that the product has been misleading its customers with false packaging and over-the-top health benefit claims. He questioned why the drink, which contains more sugar than any other nutrient, is being sold as a "health drink" in the market.
The man alleged that even though the product claims to be a strengthener for the body and immune system of kids, it has ingredients that are known for deteriorating the immunity of humans. He also claimed that one of the ingredients, a colouring agent listed on the back of the packet, can apparently cause cancer.

He ended the video by urging people and the government to take action against the supposed false claims of the product and signed off, ¡°The tagline of Bournvita is ¡®taiyari jeet ki¡¯ but rather, it should be ¡®taiyari diabetes ki.¡¯¡±

People on the internet were horrified after watching the video. Many mentioned how they had been consuming the product for decades now, and the claims in the man¡¯s viral video had shocked them to their core.

After the uproar reached the company¡¯s ears, they issued a statement to counter the video and the man¡¯s claims.
Since the video blew up, the creator on Instagram has taken down the original video after he was served a legal notice by the company. In their notice, the company asked the health and wellness influencer to prove his claims which ultimately led the man to issue a statement apologising to the conglomerate.
The Department of Consumer Affairs, at the beginning of the year, informed influencers that the government would be putting out important guidelines for those promoting health and wellness products online. The rules would make it mandatory for influencers operating in this category to display their qualifications to the department as well as their viewers to build credibility for advising on health issues.
While the government plans to double down on influencers, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare also has strict guidelines for product packaging. In the Food Safety and Standards (Advertising and Claims) Regulations 2018, the government specifies that ¡°the claim that a food has certain nutritional or health attributes shall be scientifically substantiated by validated methods of characterising or quantifying the ingredient or substance that is the basis for the claim.¡±
Chaos on Twitter followed the suspension of the influencer¡¯s account on Instagram. People jumped on the wagon to come after the company while others stayed loyal. One user weighed in on the viral video with a meme, ¡°Bournvita bolke sugar bar diya.¡±
