Anyone who has a pet dog will tell you how adorable, loving and affectionate they can be. They aren't just pets, they become a part of the family they live with. It is then, heartbreaking to see them go away. Unfortunately, dogs don't live as long as humans. So, when they pass away, it hurts like it would if you lost a family member.
When Finn - a golden retriever - was diagnosed with cancer his family wanted to make his last weeks the best for him. So, they made a bucket list for him.
Cynthia and Robert Peterson made a bucket list for six-year-old Finn who lives in Burlington, Vermont. Till now Finn has been on a hot-air balloon ride, eaten a steak dinner, been apple picking, swam in the ocean and there¡¯s a lot more that has been pending on his list.
Cynthia who is an intensive care nurse, found Finn on an online forum in 2012 when he was just six-weeks-old and he has been supporting her since then. "It's a hard blow but really powerful to look back at how he got me through those times and now I'm going to help him," she said. When Cynthia's father died, Finn was with her the whole time, so now it's her turn to support Finn. The idea for his bucket list was of Roo foundation that supports families whose pets have cancer.
The list focuses on activities he enjoys - like hiking. They also visited a fire station, made homemade dog treats, and he made a new friend - Yogi. Cynthia is thinking about writing a song for Finn and also a children¡¯s book that will be in his memory.
"We know he's dying, but we are trying to make him happy. We will look back on this and think we made his final days the best we could. We're making the most of what we've got," she adds.
It's heartbreaking to know that Finn won't be around for too long, but at least he is living his best days before he says goodbye.
