Hitesh belongs to Rajasthan and he did his engineering and MBA from Rajasthan University. In Indore, he lives with his wife and seven-year-old son. Hitesh is a corona warrior, who delivered essential items without any delivery charges, during the pandemic. He stepped out of the safety of his home to deliver essentials to hundreds of people.
He said, "It makes me feel good when people order essential items from me as a family member. Also, it makes me happy when I delivered these orders on time."
Hitesh is not a delivery boy by profession, but he delivers essentials to help the needy.
In an interview with Indiatimes Hindi, Hitesh said that since March 28, he has delivered essentials to many households in and around Indore without any charges. He received orders from locals and then delivered them at the market price. Hitesh says, "When the lockdown protocols were in place, there was a lot of pressure on the delivery of essentials because authorities had imposed strict rules, and that led to people facing problems and panic buying.¡±
How he started
During the initial stage of the lockdown, Indore was one of the worst affected cities across the state, and had about 11 containment zones. People were in constant fear of the virus and did not step out of their homes. From medicines to personal hygiene there were a lot of essential items in demand and then people turned to online shopping. Due to panic buying and new COVID-19 protocols, people were facing delays in delivery of essentials.
Hitesh said when he came to know that deliveries were stuck for several weeks he decided to deliver essential items himself, straight to people¡¯s houses. In this initiative, technology supported him.
He added, through WhatsApp people shared their details and placed orders. On the very first day, he received about 53 orders from people from many locations. He completed all deliveries within three days. After this, his phone number gradually reached many others and people from many parts of the city were seeking his help.
Hitesh woke up early in the morning and delivered essential items using his own vehicle, and followed the same routine every day to help the needy. He says, "I park my car around five hundred to thousand meters away from a delivery location for safety reasons."
"People's trust gives me the courage to move forward."
Hitesh says, "I never want to disappoint anyone. If a person has expressed trust in me and asked for help, then I definitely reach out to them.¡±
From medicines for the elderly to a child's first birthday cake, Hitesh tried to reach out to as many people as possible.
¡°Once a family requested to deliver Amul cream on the first birthday of their child. How could I refuse? I told him, Amul cream will be delivered to you and I delivered it the next day. This is real happiness for me."
Referring to another incident, Hitesh said, "I had delivered medicines to an elderly person, he told me ¡®son you have come as a god to us¡¯. This love and support only give me the courage to move forward."
He delivered more than 600 orders
According to Hitesh, he has completed more than 600 home deliveries so far. As a delivery guy, he also had to deal with some strange behavior on the part of some people. They used to reprimand him if something from the order was missing. But all these things were minor niggles compared to the love he received. His family also supported him in this service. To reduce the risk of coronavirus infection to his family, Hitesh disinfected his clothes after delivery in a separate room. Now, despite the relaxation of lockdown and resumption of online services, he is still delivering households essential to people.
He said that he will continue delivering essentials till the last order. At last - Hitesh said about his work - he feels now he has achieved something in life!
