Priest's 'miracle' escape after SUV goes flying over his car
Father John Bok, 87, was on his way to Sunday mass on October 2 at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Milford when the SUV driver suffered a seizure.
The stricken man¡¯s SUV barreled toward Bok¡¯s car, but the vehicle veered off the road, the footage shows.
He crashed through a road sign as his vehicle looked almost certain to smash into the side of Father Bok¡¯s car. However, as fate would have it, the SUV appeared to leap into the air and flew right over the top of Bok. The car landed upright, missing the driver¡¯s side completely and leaving him unscathed.
Bok continued to drive as the badly damaged SUV landed hard on all four wheels.
Father John Bok didn't know about the incident until hours later
He said he is blind in his left eye and wears hearing aids, so he was unaware of his near-death experience until hours later.
Bok said he didn't know the car went over the top because he was looking ahead and it was to his left and above. He said his eye sensed something go by, but he thought it was a bird or something like that.
Several hours later, Father Bok was alerted to the incident after being approached by a police officer who knew him while eating at a restaurant after mass had ended.
The officer notified him of his lucky escape and showed him a video of the near-collision, which had been captured on camera by a funeral home across the street. The video was later posted on YouTube.
He said the police officer also updated him on the status of the young man behind the wheel of the runaway SUV, who was fine after being checked over at the hospital.
Fortunately, nobody was injured or killed during the harrowing incident.
