Some people suffer from complete memory loss, where they forget everything about their livesĄĒsometimes even their names. Others suffer from partial memory loss, wherein people lose only fragments of their memory and remember some.
A man in the US suffered from the latter and woke up thinking it was 1993 after a bike accident. What he did after that melted his wife's heart. Here's what happened.
Man woke up thinking it was 1993 after a bike accident
A man in the United States barely survived a motorbike accident last year; he woke up thinking it was the year 1993 and asked his wife to marry him again.
The couple is identified as Kristy and Andrew Mackenzie, residents of Virginia. The two met a deadly accident where they nearly faced death in a motorcycle accident in June of 2021 after a car skipped a red light and smashed into their bike.
As per ABC 7 reports, the couple was launched more than 50 feet across the street, leaving the husband unconscious and in need of life-saving surgery. Immediately after the accident, the two were airlifted to a nearby hospital as they suffered internal bleeding, punctured lungs, and broken bones.
Man woke up after 3 days in the hospital
After being admitted in the hospital for surgeries, Andrew woke up after woke up three days in the hospital. But unfortunately, Andrew had suffered some memory loss as he woke up thinking he was back in 1993 having 29 years of his life disappeared into thin air.
Speaking to the news outlet, Kristy said that he didn't even recognise his own daughters, who are identified as Lorelai Mentzer and Amanda Mackenzie. "He just immediately, it was, 'Where's my wife? Where's my wife?' And I think he thought I was working at the hospital," Lorelai said.
Andrew, on the other hand reportedly said, "One of the first things I remember is Kristy in a wheelchair bedside trying to worry about me taking care of myself."
The family took a vacation after the couple was healthy
After spending a total of 11 days in the hospital and undergoing extensive rehab, the couple was then able to walk. The doctors said they didn't know if his memory would ever return, but his wife insisted on putting him in her room, thinking it would help him remember his lost years.
As they got better, the family even took a beach vacation in August. It was during this trip, Andrew popped the question for a second time and the couple renewed their vows days later. "Luckily, she said yes. We'd already been married 37 years or whatever, and so it worked out," Andrew said.
