Jay-Z's lawyer denies rapper's association with Diddy after rape lawsuit: 'He has nothing to do with the case'
Jay-Z's lawyer has denied rapper's 'closer association' with Diddy, saying they just knew each other 'professionally' for a 'number of years'. He also claimed that his client had 'nothing to do' with the charges against the embattled music mogul.
Contrary to conspiracy theories floating on the internet, Jay-Z's lawyer, Alex Sapiro, has denied the rapper's involvement in the sexual assault allegations against Sean 'Diddy' Combs. On Monday, Sapiro claimed that while Diddy and Jay-Z knew each other professionally for several years, his client had 'nothing to do' with the now-disgraced rapper. The statement comes days after Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, was named in a lawsuit along with Diddy, accusing both of them of raping a minor in 2000.
Jay-Z has 'nothing to do' with Diddy
Amid an ongoing legal battle in the wake of the fresh lawsuit, Jay-Z has distanced himself from the allegations against Diddy. In a press briefing at Roc Nation's New York headquarters, the music mogul's lawyer said, "Mr. Carter has nothing to do with Mr. Combs' case. They knew each other professionally for a number of years."
He continued, "Just like in all professions, people know each other. At music awards, they support each other. They go to the NBA All-Star Game, they support each other. That¡¯s just how professions work.¡± Dismissing the claims of their long-standing friendship and close ties between the two rappers, the attorney added that ¡°there is no closer association."
Spiro also underlined inconsistencies in the accuser¡¯s claims, calling it a fabricated story. ¡°When something isn¡¯t real, you¡¯re going to get the details wrong because you weren¡¯t really there,¡± Spiro said. 'It's a mockery of the system." he added.
He culminated by saying, ¡°That¡¯s all that there is. He doesn¡¯t know anything about the charges or allegations against him. He has nothing to do with that case and there¡¯s nothing more to say.¡±
Lawsuit against Jay-Z
Earlier this month, Jay-Z was added to a lawsuit that was filed against Diddy in October. Filed on behalf of anonymous accuser Jane Doe, Jay-Z was then referred to as celebrity 'A', who, along with Diddy, alleged intoxicated and sexually assaulted a 13-year-old at MTV VMAs afterparty. In response to the lawsuit filed by Texas-based attorney Tony Buzbee, the Young Forever rapper penned a strong-worded letter, vehemently denying the charges levelled against him.
Diddy, meanwhile, recently dropped his 4th plea for bail, which means he will be locked behind bars as he awaits trial on May 5, 2025, for federal charges involving sex trafficking and other allegations.
