According to the British tabloid Metro, a South African school has vanished after thieves stole every one of its bricks. Six months after it shut down in 2019, Cape Town's Uitzig Secondary School was reduced to nothing more than its foundation.
Every brick, window, roof tile, and element of the once-proud institution's plumbing, electrical, and blackboards were stolen by the thieves who ransacked it.
According to reports, they allegedly received Rs.450 for each window and Rs. 2.25 for each brick sold. The residents claim that "drug addicts stole the school piece by piece so they could sell all the materials for enough money to get a fix."
"The Department of Education ordered the school to close its doors to students in 2019 after an investigation found that it was structurally unstable and plagued by "gangsterism and vandalism."
After six months of closure, all that was left of the school was its foundation," reported the news website capetownetc.
On Google Earth, the school's condition is illustrated. Images of this issue began to spread on social media, bringing attention to it.
According to the locals, the school had five classrooms, a hall, two restrooms, and a grand entrance gate. Furniture, appliances, and other significant items were also kept in storage. However, the robbers took the valuables one by one.
