Pakistan government¡¯s X account suspended in India after Pahalgam terror attack; check 5 major moves imposed so far

In a major development after the deadly Pahalgam terror attack that took place on Tuesday, April 22, killing 26 civilians, the official X (formerly called Twitter) account of the Pakistan government has been suspended in India.

Amid the escalating tensions between the two countries, the move comes a day after India took a raft of punitive diplomatic measures against Pakistan on Wednesday, including the indefinite suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty.

According to Times Now, the Indian government submitted an official request to X, prompting the platform to restrict access to the account for Indian users.

Big 5 measures taken by the Indian government after the Pahalgam terror attack

In response to the Pahalgam terror attack, the Indian government chaired a Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), which was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to take stringent measures against Pakistan. During the meeting, the CCS resolved to take these steps mentioned below:

1. High commission cut down: The overall strength of the Pakistani and Indian high commissions will be reduced to 30 from the current 55 via further cut-downs that are planned to be effected by May 1.

2. Pakistani nationals banned in India: Pakistani nationals will not be permitted to travel to India under the SAARC visa exemption scheme, and any Pakistani nationals currently present in India under the SVES will have to leave India in the next 48 hours.

3. Indefinite suspension of the Indus Water Treaty: The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) decided to suspend the two-decade-long Indus Waters Treaty of 1960 with immediate effect for an indefinite time.

The Indus Waters Treaty, brokered by the World Bank to share the waters of cross-border rivers, is considered to be the most durable pact between the two sides.

4. Attari-Wagah checkpost closed: The integrated Attari-Wagah checkpost will be closed with immediate effect, and it will be the only operational land border crossing between the two countries.

5. India to withdraw its defence: India will be withdrawing its defence, navy and air advisors from the Indian High Commission in Islamabad. The defence, military, naval and air advisors in the Pakistani High Commission in Delhi will be declared persona non grata. This means they have one week to leave India.

Pahalgam terror attack: What we know so far

April 22, 2025, marks a black day in the history of India, after terrorists opened fire at a popular tourist spot near Kashmir¡¯s Pahalgam town. It is considered to be the deadliest attacks in the valley since 2019.

The attack took place at Baisaran Pine Forest, also commonly called a 'mini Switzerland', a meadow surrounded by dense forests and mountains, when suddenly 6 terrorists came into the grassland and started open firing at the tourists. The incident claimed 26 innocent lives.

As soon as the news came in, Prime Minister Narendra Modi returned to India from his short Saudi visit and assured that people who are "behind this heinous act will be brought to justice."
