The skydivers jumped at 120 mph from three separate aircraft 15,000 feet above the ground of Nottingham on July 12. According to Skydive Langar, the organization that operates the airport and training centre where the stunt took place, the crew united to construct two sequential shapes in the sky while airborne ¨C the highest number of Brits ever to do so.
But the group did not stop there.
After two jumps, the squad of British national champions, global champions, world record holders, coaches, and skydiving instructors smashed their record by performing three consecutive formations.
According to Skydive Langar, formation skydiving is one of the first skills a new skydiver learns while gaining their license. The practice entails free-falling while grasping other skydivers to form shapes while falling at speeds up to 120 mph for at least 60 seconds.
British Skydiving, the official body for the sport of parachuting in the United Kingdom, oversaw the record-breaking stunt.
"We're very proud to be a part of this new record and to be pushing the discipline of formation skydiving forwards," stated Skydive Langar in a statement. "Thank you to everyone who was involved and made it happen."
