The 150-bed Cachar Cancer Hospital and Research Centre have been overloaded for days.
The situation has gotten to the point that the hospital's administrators have requested life jackets and an inflatable raft to transport patients and staff, among other crucial supplies necessary to keep the facility operating smoothly.
The hospital is situated in Assam's Barak valley, which is currently experiencing severe flooding.

"Procedures that can be done outside, like chemotherapy and initial diagnosis, we are doing on the road where there is minimal waterlogging," Reuters quoted Dharshana R, who heads the resource-mobilization department of the hospital as saying.
"If anybody requires emergency surgery, we are conducting it, but we have reduced the overall numbers because of a shortage of nitrous gas required for anesthesia," she added.
The doctor said that before the state's flood crisis got worse, almost all of the beds at the cancer hospital were full. He noted that patients have had to be moved home or to safer locations because of circumstances.
According to Cachar Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli, UNICEF, OXFAM, and the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) have started operating boat-mounted water treatment equipment to provide drinking water to those in need in Silchar and its surrounding districts.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and other agencies are engaged in rescue and relief operations through the flood waters.

Talking to The Better India, Padma Shri Awardee Dr. Ravi Kannan said that they are ensuring that the treatment of poor patients doesn't come to a standstill.
He said, "We¡¯ve created a raft. We took four lorry tubes, put plywood across them, and tied them up. We're ferrying patients up and down across that in front of the hospital,"
Current status of Assam Floods:
Eight more people lost their lives in the devastating floods in Assam on Monday, while over 21 lakh people remained in distress under the impact of the deluge, officials said.
The death toll from the flood this year mounted to 134, with eight deaths reported during the day, including five from the Cachar district and one from Kamrup Metro, Morigaon, and Nagaon, they said.
According to a bulletin from the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), one person was also reported missing in the Cachar district.
There was, however, some improvement in the flood situation, with the total affected population declining to 21.52 lakh in 22 districts as against the previous day¡¯s 22.21 lakh in 28 districts.
Most of the rivers showed a receding trend, though Kopili at Nagaon, Barak at Cachar and Karimganj, and Kushiara in Karimganj were flowing above the danger level, the officials said.
