School Boys Wear Skirts In Protest After Management Asked Them To Not Wear Shorts Amid Heatwave
Adrian Copp, a secondary school student at Poltair School, and some of his classmates were banned from wearing shorts. So they wore skirts.
In every school, there are a few kids who go against the old-fashioned rules and norms and make their mark. In the UK, a few schoolboys are going viral just for the same reason.
Pupil Adrian Copp who is 15 and around a dozen of his friends swapped their school trousers for skirts to make a stand against the ¡®outdated uniform policy¡¯. Their secondary school, in St Austell, Cornwall, does not allow students to wear shorts even though there is a heatwave going on in the country.
So, Adrien and his friends decided to take advantage of the loophole in Poltair School¡¯s uniform policy which allows pupils of any gender to wear skirts.
Adrian asked his mother to buy him a pleated skirt to challenge the rules along with pals Scott Penman and Connor Humphries. His mother completely backed him up and brought him an Asda skirt. She also claimed the argument to allow both shorts and skirts have been an ¡®ongoing battle for a few years.
However, these kids said they have already come under fire by some staff members, who removed them from class and banned them from socialising with friends for 24 hours.
Adrien told Metro.co.uk, "It was a mixed bag. Some teachers thought we were messing about. But there were others who cheered us on. There were a group of Year 8 boys who were clapping and cheering us. We were removed from classes and banned for socialisation for 24 hours but we were let go because they couldn¡¯t find anything to pin us on. We haven¡¯t broken any rules. We just want everyone to have the option to wear shorts in this heat and that goes for the girls too."
He also said that so far found wearing a skirt ¡®a lot cooler definitely¡¯, highlighting how uncomfortable it is to wear trousers in the heat.
The school's guidelines and rules for uniform reads. ¡®Students must wear plain black tailored trousers made of standard material that sit at the waist and shoe line. These must be of a style that is complementary to a blazer. Skirts must be pleated and sit no higher than a credit cards width above the knee.¡¯
In June, several male teachers across Spain joined a unique movement to fight stereotypical gender norms and promote tolerance in the country after a boy was expelled from school in 2020 for wearing a skirt.
