In less than an hour, India's Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will be presenting the Union Budget 2024-25 to Parliament. On Tuesday, she was seen in a white silk saree with a magenta border posing with a tablet in a red sleeve along with her team outside her office. Sitharaman will next head to Rashtrapati Bhawan to meet President Droupadi Murmu from where her final stop will be the Parliament where she will present the Budget.
The covered tablet, embossed in a golden-coloured national emblem, replaced the traditional bahi-khata that carried Union Budget papers in July 2019. After 2021, FM Sitharaman made the switch from paper to tablet.

The saree, the moment
The Budget for the FY2024-25 is Modi government¡¯s 13th straight Budget since 2014. This includes two interim Budgets in 2019 and 2024. Over time, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman's saree, too, each Budget year, has had its moment on social media. For every budget so far her saree has symbolised something. In 2020, she wore a yellow silk saree with a blue border symbolising prosperity and light.

In 2021, she showed her support for local artisans after donning a silk saree with an Ikat design. The brown Bomkai saree with a maroon and gold border that she wore in 2022 was a nod to handloom from Odisha.
She posed in a bright red saree with a border that included a black temple motif in 2023, a nod to Kasuti embroidery from Karnataka's Dharwad region.
