'Stay Vigilant': Canada Updates Its India Travel Advisory For Citizens Amid Diplomatic Tensions

In response to the diplomatic tension with India linked to the death of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, Canada has recently updated its travel advisory for its citizens in India.

They have advised their citizens to be cautious due to rising "negative sentiments towards Canada on social media" following recent developments.

This advisory follows the escalating tensions between the two nations, triggered by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's claims of the possible involvement of Indian agents in the death of Khalistani extremist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, aged 45.

India vehemently denied Trudeau's allegations, labeling them as "absurd" and "motivated."

In retaliation for Canada's expulsion of an Indian official related to the case, India also expelled a senior Canadian diplomat in a tit-for-tat response.

Nijjar was murdered on June 18 in British Columbia, Canada. India had classified him as a terrorist back in 2020.

Last week, India issued a corresponding advisory for its nationals and students residing in Canada. Additionally, India's Ministry of External Affairs revealed its decision to halt all visa categories, including e-visas, for Canadian citizens in response to the serious accusations.

The tension began when Prime Minister Justin Trudeau claimed that Canada had provided India with evidence several weeks ago suggesting their involvement in killing Khalistan separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar on Canadian soil. Trudeau urged New Delhi to engage constructively with Ottawa to investigate this "very serious matter."

In response, India has requested that Canada reduce its diplomatic personnel in the country, citing the need for equal representation and rank equivalence in mutual diplomatic missions. Canada currently has a larger diplomatic staff presence in India than New Delhi maintains in Canada.
