'Disgusting practice': Passengers outraged over same trays for shoes & personal items at Bengaluru airport
An entrepreneur has raised concerns on X about hygiene at Bengaluru airport, where passengers reportedly use the same trays for shoes and personal items during security checks. Users criticised the practice as a widespread hygiene issue, noting similar problems at airports across India.
Airport security checks in India are often criticised for being cumbersome, but a new concern has emerged at Bengaluru airport. An entrepreneur has highlighted a troubling issue: passengers are being asked to use the same trays for both their shoes and other personal items, raising significant hygiene concerns.
Entrepreneur Anand Nichani voiced his concerns on X, saying, "The same trays that carry our muddy shoes are used for our personal items at airport security! This is NOT okay! @BLRAirport, it's time to make dedicated trays for shoes MANDATORY for a cleaner & more pleasant experience for everyone! Who's with me? #HygieneMattersBIAL"
In response, Bengaluru airport's official account claimed they have placed dedicated shoe trays next to all X-ray machines.
Hello @NichaniAnand, hygiene and passenger experience are top priorities for us, thus, we've positioned dedicated shoe trays adjacent to all of the X-rays for ease. pic.twitter.com/hcoRgmsRLl

Nichani replied, "and yet people are using the same trays for shoes? I didn't find any shoe tray stack near my security belt!! Why isn't this mandatory?"
How did people react?
In the comments, many users voiced their frustration over the issue.
One person wrote, "This is horrific! Why should our personal items share the same trays as our dirty shoes at airport security?"
Another added, "Providing separate trays for items like shoes and other belongings are very basic. This is clearly a hygiene problem."
A third commenter noted that this issue extends beyond Bengaluru airport, stating, "Not only in Bangalore airport. Many airports across India, this is the same situation. Disgusting practice by airport officials..I always carry old newspapers in my bag and I used to cover the tray with a paper before placing my personal items."
