If you have ever been to an event where a DJ is playing music, you'd know that people do approach them and request songs. It is a harmless practice that is common around the world, but sometimes the person on the other end might not like the suggestions. However, there is a way to handle things, and this incident from Bengaluru is an example of what you should not do.
DJ Siddharth was arrested in a pub in Bengaluru¡¯s Koramanagala on Saturday night after he reportedly assaulted a guest for requesting a Kannada song. The DJ was booked by the police for the alleged assault. However, he claims that he assaulted the customer for hurling filthy abuse.
According to a report by The New Indian Express, the incident took place in Badmash, a pub in Koramangala where a group of friends had gone to celebrate a birthday party. When they asked the DJ, Siddharth Mehrotra to play a Kannada song, he said that he would but did not.
One of the people in the group, Sumitha said, "At 12.30 am, the DJ stopped the music. When my cousin asked the DJ why he didn't play the Kannada song, he behaved rudely with us, told us we should not come to such places and asked us to get out. When my cousins objected to his behaviour, he held one of my cousins by the collar and assaulted him. He was stopped by the staff."
The pub experienced Kannada activists protesting in front of the establishment on Sunday. Dominic, the manager, apologised for the incident and said that DJs will play Kannada music in the pub. He said, ¡°From now on, we will ensure that DJs play Kannada songs. I sincerely apologise for yesterday¡¯s (Saturday's) incident."
After one of the guests filed a police complaint against DJ Siddharth, he was booked for assault, wrongful restraint and criminal intimidation.
Police sources said, ¡°The DJ admitted that he assaulted one of the customers for hurling filthy abuse at him. He also showed us videos of him singing and playing Kannada songs and claimed language had nothing to do with the incident.¡±
The police added that the DJ told them that it was the rude behaviour and verbal abuse by the customers that provoked the assault.
