The results of the 2024 US election saw Donald Trump clinch the presidency for a second, non-consecutive term. While some celebrated his victory, for many others it was a shocking and painful outcome. Almost immediately, troubling incidents of racism surfaced, with numerous Black individuals reporting receiving hateful, racist text messages. In response, the FBI has acknowledged the situation, confirming that it is aware of the reports and is actively investigating the matter.
"You have been selected to pick cotton at the nearest plantation."
"Our exclusive slaves will come get you in a White van, be prepared to be searched so don*t try anything."
Such were the disturbing and hateful messages received by Black individuals across the United States in the wake of the 2024 US Presidential Election.

The texts, which referenced slavery, plantation labour, and explicit threats, left many in deep shock and fear.
The messages not only invoked the horrors of America's racist past but also included chilling instructions about being "transported" to a plantation or auctioned off after "years of service."
One such message specifically mentioned being forced to pick cotton at a plantation in Atlanta, while others made alarming references to enslavement.
These racist and violent messages were sent to students and individuals across the country, many of whom were left traumatised by the sudden and terrifying reminders of the deep-rooted racism still present in society today.
It seemed that for many, the election results seemed to open a door for such hate to be expressed more openly and without fear of consequence.
In response to the outcry, the FBI has acknowledged the severity of the situation.
