In a historic first, Rashtrapati Bhavan will host the wedding of a female CRPF officer, Poonam Gupta, on February 12, 2025. The intimate ceremony will mark a new milestone at the venue, which is the residence of the President of India, attended by close family and friends following strict security protocols.
In a historic first, Rashtrapati Bhavan will host the wedding of a female CRPF officer, setting a new precedent at the iconic venue. On February 12, 2025, Poonam Gupta, an assistant commandant serving as a Personal Security Officer (PSO) at the Bhavan, will marry Avneesh Kumar, another assistant commandant posted in Jammu and Kashmir. The wedding, which marks a significant milestone, will be a small and intimate affair, attended by close family and friends, following a thorough security screening.
Rashtrapati Bhavan, the iconic residence of the President of India, has occasionally been the venue for weddings.
In one notable case in January 2020, President Ram Nath Kovind stepped in to help a couple whose wedding plans were disrupted at the last minute. US-based bride Ashley Hall had planned to marry at a five-star hotel in Kochi, but upon arrival, she was informed that the hotel was being reserved for the President's security.
Left without a venue, Hall reached out on Twitter, seeking assistance. To her surprise, the Rashtrapati Bhavan responded, offering a solution and ensuring the wedding went ahead as planned.
However, in a groundbreaking first, the prestigious institution is now set to host the wedding of a serving officer, marking a new chapter in its history.
Although official details from the Bhavan are still awaited, sources indicate that the ceremony will take place in the Mother Teresa Crown Complex, a distinguished area within the Bhavan.
