Rahul Dubey, an Indian-American, was featured on the Time magazine's 'Heroes of 2020' list. He is now backing the peaceful protests by farmers in India against the Central government's three new farm laws.
Dubey had sheltered 70 protesters during protests against the killing of African-American George Floyd in the US, reported India Today.
In conversation with the news portal, Dubey spoke about how he had taken in 70 protestors in his home in Washington. He said he did so after he saw the police officials spraying the protestors with pepper spray on the streets.
The Time Magazine had described Dubey as 'The man who gave shelter to those in need'.
Dubey also revealed that had also been a victim of racism and only realised it when he witnessed the 'Black Lives Matter' movement.
He told India Today: ¡°I have faced racism, looking back on it, my entire life here in America. That is something I had trouble swallowing and understanding because I have always aspired to be in the roles of my white role models in America."
Talking about his support to the farmer protests in India, he said, ¡°I am very proud and grateful to the Indian farmers and all the peaceful protesters around India, coming together to drive change.¡±
He also said, ¡°Farmers of India and peaceful protesters continue to march, continue to speak, for you are not speaking just for yourself, you are inspiring people on a different continent, in a different generation many miles away."
