New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern Admits To Smoking Weed 'A Long Time Ago'

Not farmer¡¯s protests, not rising COVID-19 cases but the Bollywood ¡®drug connection¡¯ has been the 24 X 7 topic of most mainstream media channels for the past¡­month. Consequently a large chunk of the country's population is interested to know who smokes weed or hash in the industry.

While in India high-profile people seem to be getting into trouble for smoking up, New Zealand Prime Minister admitted to smoking weed a ¡®long time ago¡¯, during a debate with National party leader, Judith Collin.

The country is approaching its referendum on whether cannabis should be legalised for personal use. If the referendum is passed, one will see legalised Coffee Shops in the country, much like Netherlands.

In about two weeks, Kiwis will be deciding not only whether pot should be legalized in the country, but also whether euthanasia should be legalised and which political party should lead New Zealand.

The leaders of the two main political parties, Labour and National, engaged in a heated debate recently.

They covered everything from the rise in gangs, the proposal to rename the country, schools and the way to lead New Zealand post-pandemic.

Apparently the weed debate has polarised the country; the two leaders were asked whether they had smoked weed and how they would vote on the use of cannabis freely in the community.

National leader Judith Collins said she will be voting 'no' in the referendum and had never used the drug in the past. Her opposition, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, admitted to smoking a bit of the ganja in the past, saying it happened ¡°a long time ago.¡± However, the New Zealand Prime Minister did not reveal how she would be voting on the referendum.

According to the latest Newshub Reid-Research survey, only 37.9 % of people said they are planning to vote yes on October 17.

More than 50 % of respondents will vote against the proposal, with the rest undecided or won't vote.

Under the proposal to legalise cannabis, ¡®the substance would only be available for people over the age of 20 and they would be restricted to purchasing 14 grams of dried cannabis (or its equivalent) per day. Kiwis would be allowed to grow up to two cannabis plants in their home, however each property will be allowed up to four plants¡¯, LadBible reports. Further, no advertising or marketing of the drug will be allowed, there will be no online sales, all products will have to be sold in a physical store.
