After 27 Years Of Service, Microsoft To Retire Internet Explorer For Good On June 15
On August 17, 2021, Microsoft 356 ended support for Internet Explorer, and Microsoft Team ended support for the browser on November 30, 2020. According to reports, Internet Explorer is all set to be discontinued on June 15, 2022.
It is time to bid farewell to our deal old friend, the Internet Explorer. First introduced to the world in 1995 as part of the add-on package Plus! for Windows 95 that year, the Internet Explorer was a significant part of our lives while growing up.
Later versions of the browser were available as free downloads, or in-service packs, and included in the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) service releases of Windows 95 and later versions of Windows.
However, by 2003, the browser reached saturation point with around 95 percent usage share, but new browsers came in from other companies which eventually led to the Internet Explorer's user base falling in the following years.
In fact, there were no more feature developments for Internet Explorer from 2016 since Microsoft came up with a new browser - Microsoft Edge. This was the company's plan to slowly phase out Internet Explorer.
Sean Lyndersay, Microsoft Edge program manager, said "the future of Internet Explorer on Windows 10 is in Microsoft Edge."
"Not only is Microsoft Edge a faster, more secure and more modern browsing experience than Internet Explorer, but it is also able to address a key concern: compatibility for older, legacy websites and applications," he said.
"Microsoft Edge has Internet Explorer mode ('IE mode') built in, so you can access those legacy Internet Explorer-based websites and applications straight from Microsoft Edge. With Microsoft Edge capable of assuming this responsibility and more, the Internet Explorer 11 desktop application will be retired and go out of support on June 15, 2022, for certain versions of Windows 10," he added.

People on the internet, especially us '90s kids, are feeling super nostalgic after learning of the latest development with IE. Of course, there were also lots of jokes about how slow it is.
