Mizoram Hit By Two Earthquakes In 12 Hours, Houses And Roads Damaged
The first earthquake reportedly hit on Sunday at 4 pm, the magnitude of which was was 5.1 on the Richter scale.
Natural disasters seem to be hitting various states across the country one after the other this year. It seems 2020 is not ready to take it easy on us humans yet. After cyclones Amphan and Nisarga there were the earthquakes in Gujarat and Delhi. More recently, Mizoram was hit by two earthquakes within 12 hours, claim reports.
The first earthquake reportedly hit on Sunday at 4 pm, the magnitude of which was
was 5.1
on the Richter scale. The second one hit around 4 am on Monday. Its magnitude was was reported to be 5.3.The two earthquakes left considerable damage to houses and roads in their wake.

According to the National Centre for Seismology, the earthquake on June 21 was tracked at a depth of 35 km from the earth's surface at a place near Aizawl in Mizoram, while the one on June 22 morning occurred 27 km south-southwest of Champhai. The depth of the quake was 20 km while the coordinates of the epicentre were reported to be 23.22 (latitude) and 93.24 (longitude).

Tremors rocked several parts of the state including capital city Aizawl and Champhai district.

The complete extent of damage is yet to be ascertained, however, no casualties have been reported so far, reports ANI.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed concerns over the quakes in Mizoram and extended a helping hand to the state government. Let us hope, the extent of damage is limited.
