Mount Everest For Love: 60-Year-Old Man Conquers Everest In Honour Of His Late Wife
Sharad Kulkarni, 60, did not create a monument in her honour, but he did climb Mount Everest. After his wife passed away, he decided to climb the highest mountain in the world.
We have heard many stories in the past about a woman and her husband's eternal love and closeness. We all know that Shah Jahan dedicated the magnificent Taj Mahal to his beloved wife, Noorjahan.
A 60-year-old man climbed Mount Everest
Unlike the Mughal Emperor, Sharad Kulkarni, 60, did not create a monument in her honour, but he did climb Mount Everest, the highest mountain in the world. After his wife passed away, he decided to climb the highest mountain in the world.
To put it mildly, it is remarkable that he is the only mountaineer in India to have conquered Mount Everest at this age.
The Kulkarni couple left their birthplace of Beed, Maharashtra, and relocated to Thane. Sharad Dinkar Kulkarni and his wife Anjali, both mountaineers, had decided to ascend all seven of the world's highest summits.
The formidable Mount Everest needed to be scaled as the first step towards realising this concept that he and his wife had envisioned. Despite having set out on this journey together, a tragic accident prevented them from realising their dream.
The wife passed away while climbing Everest
Anjali and Sharad set out on their Everest trek in 2019. On May 22, something extraordinary happened as we were ascending Mount Everest. Due to the presence of multiple climbers, there was a traffic jam right there near the Hillary Step.
There is only one ropeway at this location. Only one rope is used for lifting, and only this rope is used for pulling. Because there was a very small window of time and all the mountaineers wanted to descend as fast as possible, there was a big rush. Because there was insufficient oxygen present at the moment, Anjali perished.
Sharad decided to fulfil his wife Anjali's request after she passed away. At the age of 60, he started working hard to prepare for his Mount Everest adventure. Since then, he has ascended the peaks of four other mountains. He ultimately decided to go back to Everest. Four years after his wife's passing, on May 23, 2023, he reached their common objective.
Ascent of Everest. Sharad became the first and only Indian to climb Mount Everest at the age of 60 when he succeeded in doing so. It's noteworthy to note that Sharad had previously successfully scaled Everest before the year 2019 began.
Sharad said, in a News18 report, "There was no end to my delight when I stepped foot on Mount Everest¡¯s summit on May 23 at 10:23 in the morning. I had realised the dream that Anjali and I had shared. My weeping would not cease. It was happy tears. Being able to stand atop Mount Everest is a rare and fortunate experience. I appreciate everyone¡¯s help in giving me this opportunity. Even this year, many of his fellow climbers had to perish on the Everest adventure."
