'Casteism Continues To Thrive': Desi Couple Denies Housing To A Non-Vegetarian Sikh Man In Ireland
An Indian man in Dublin voiced his displeasure over being turned down for housing "because he ate meat."
There could be many reasons why people lose out on a good house. Finding a good house to rent is not a cakewalk, and no one understands this better than people who relocate to a different country for their jobs, colleges, or as trailing spouses.
Apart from high rents, people have to go through a bizarre level of scrutiny to find a good house to rent.
Sharing one such experience is a Sikh man from Dublin, Ireland. An Indian man in Dublin voiced his displeasure over being turned down for housing "because he ate meat."
While looking for a home, Simran Singh Bakshi and his girlfriend stumbled onto an advertisement for a double room.
Just when they thought they could finally lock a deal and finally get the house, things began getting twisted. Simran's experience was highlighted on social media by a handle called Dublin Live. Dublin Live even published Simran's story.
As per Dublin Live's Twitter handle, here is what happened with Simran Singh Bakshi and his girlfriend.
"They were an Indian couple. We agreed on everything, and they asked me for my passport details at the very last moment. They saw I was Sikh because of my name and the woman said, ¡®You can¡¯t live here because you eat non-veg. I asked her if she wanted more money for the rent or if my eating non-veg was an issue. She said we strictly want vegetarian people. My girlfriend is vegetarian, so she tells me, ¡®If your girlfriend wants to live in a single room, that¡¯s fine with me, but you can¡¯t live here'. I even said I wouldn¡¯t cook non-veg at home and eat meat at restaurants, but she still said no. It was so frustrating."

You can take the samaaj out of India but you cannot take the sada hua pun out of them. From U.S to Europe, increasing stories of Indian desis and their apartheid like behavior with other Indians of different castes and in this case, meat eaters. https://t.co/X8b5daxMmc
