Police officers from Vadodara, Gujarat have taken up the task to feed underprivileged people by cooking meals for them on their own. They have reportedly turned their police station's kitchen into a community kitchen.
Migrant workers and the underprivileged are suffering the most in terms of lack of resources to sustain themselves during the pandemic and the subsequent lockdown, which is in its fourth phase now. Good Samaritans are trying their best to lend a helping hand to those in need and a few cops from Vadodara, Gujarat are on that list.
According to a Times of India report, police officers from the city have taken up the task to feed underprivileged people by cooking meals for them on their own. They have reportedly turned their police station's kitchen into a community kitchen.
The initiative came into being when a man who unfortunately lost his daughter to cancer, donated groceries to the police department to help out the needy. The police officers were well-aware of the several hungry people out on the road and decided to use the groceries to prepare meals for them. DCP Saroj Kumari formed a team of eight police officials who work in the kitchen after completing their duty hours.
Initially, senior police officials were funding the groceries by donating money to the kitchen and the cops preparing the meals were not too sure about how long they would be able to sustain their initiative. However, once people became aware of it, they started donating either groceries or money to the kitchen. DCP Saroj Kumari told TOI, "Some citizens of Sanskarinagri donated either groceries or money to the police instead of celebrating their birthday parties or anniversaries."
Every day, the police officers manage to prepare food for around 600 people. They package the meals and then set out to deliver it to those in need.
Several stories of people suffering due to the current situation, surface every day. In the midst of all of that pain and hardship, it is heartwarming to know that there are so many people out there, who are doing their best to help people who really need it.
