Video: Railway Employee Who Saved Child's Life Gets Lauded By His Department
A bone-chilling video of a child falling down on a railway track came to light recently while an express train came towards him. The boy's blind mother howled for help and within seconds, a 'superhero' came swooping in to save the child.
A bone-chilling video of a child falling down on a railway track came to light recently while an express train came towards him. The boy's blind mother howled for help and within seconds, a 'superhero' came swooping in to save the child.
The incident took place in at Vangani railway station in Vangani, Maharashtra. It is about 100 km from CSMT. The incident was captured on CCTV at the station. The Udyan Express was speeding when railway employee Mayur Shelke was alerted by the cries of a woman standing on the platform. Shelke's job is to check railway signals. He noticed that the woman's six-year-old son had slipped onto the railway track below.

The child tried to vault over to get onto the platform but in vain as the mother cried and stared blankly. Shelke figured that the mother was blind and all this while, the train was moving ahead. Without wasting a single second, Shelke raced towards the boy and picked him up onto the platform and then swiftly got himself to the platform as well.
In a few seconds, the Udyan Express crossed Vangani station and continued on its way towards Bengaluru.
The 30-year-old pointsman has won the gratitude of his colleagues from his department. In a video posted by ANI, railway staff at Central Railway office clapped for Shelkhe. The railway employee was also felicitated.

Asian Institute of Transport Development has announced an award of Rs 50,000 for the alertness and courage that Shelke displayed. The boy¡¯s mother Sangeeta Shirsat was, of course, extremely thankful to Shelke.
She said, ¡°Can¡¯t thank him enough... He took a huge risk to save my son¡¯s life...¡±
Shelke, who joined the railways six months ago, played down his act, ¡°I was on duty when I saw the boy. For a second, I hesitated... but then made my mind and rush towards him before the train could get there.¡±
