Twitter after getting under Elon Musk's wing has been a crazy ride. From paid blue ticks to now having long-form content on the "micro-blogging" site has left Twitteratti absolutely confused. On Wednesday, Musk increased the character limit of a tweet to 4,000 for its Twitter Blue subscribers only. This means that people will now be able to post around 500 words worth of content at a time. Hearing this news, people on the platform were greatly disturbed.
Twitter Blue Increases Character Limit To 4,000
The previous limit for tweets was 280 characters which was a modified version of the original 140-character limit. This change was brought about back in 2017. After the recent modification, Twitter started glitching though there was no evidence that this change in character-limit policy was the reason for it.
According to the new system, the longer tweets will be displayed in a similar fashion to the normal ones but will have a ¡°show more¡± button attached for those who have the motivation to keep on reading.
The platform explained in a statement, ¡°[Twitter Blue users] can also compose longer Tweets in a Quote Tweet or reply. Standard functionality like posting media, creating polls, and using hashtags still apply. Everyone will be able to read longer Tweets, but only Blue subscribers can create them.¡±
People Were Not Onboard With The New Program
Twitter quickly turned into a warzone after the change was announced. People were extremely upset with the new feature. Many raised issues with the change and others were simply busy trolling. Twitter user Jane Manchun Wong gave people online a peep at what a long-form tweet will look like and wrote, ¡°This tweet has 26927 characters,¡± then proceeded to type periods on the rest of the tweet.

One user suggested that Twitter should add a ¡°skip to comments¡± button since most people would avoid reading the whole post, ¡°If the first line wasn't broken, would the entire post show up on the feed? @elonmusk please add a floating "Skip to Comments" button.¡±

Another suggestion popped out, ¡°First tap should show buttons and replies, then tap show more again to see the whole content. Otherwise it¡¯s too hard to bookmark/like. Also might want to see replies without reading.¡¯
