We might not talk about pillows often, but this might change our minds. A doctor on TikTok has revealed just how disgusting our pillows might actually be and it does not sound good at all.
Dr Karan Raj has been sharing his insight on the platform in small, easy to understand clips, and they've been racking up millions of views. But it's his clip about changing your pillows that will blown your mind away.
"You need to change your pillow at least every two years," Dr Raj explained in the video.

He doesn't really go into the minor details of how to clean your pillows, rather he explains why you should think about replacing yours if they're getting a bit old.
"The average person sheds four kilograms of skin each year, most of that ends up on your bed and pillow ¡ a feast for microscopic dust mites," he said.

"A single dust mite drops 20 droppings each day. If you multiply those by the hundreds of mites living in your pillow, the build up of those droppings can cause breaking problems and allergy type symptoms."
The doctor then talks about pillow stains, which are caused by oil and sweat. He says the stains can often result in the breeding of mould and bacteria.
